They came from all over the United States to claim their place on
the Irish Echo 40 Under 40 listing in 2008. From many states and as
many professions, the Irish Echo's 40 Under 40 award winners
epitomized the verve and vigor which has long been a hallmark of Irish
America.
Up-and-coming entrepreneurs, actors, academics, writers, police
officers, media personalities and attorneys rubbed shoulders with the
established leaders of Irish America at a gala presentation in New
York last February. Among our 2008 honorees were Rep. Gene O'Flaherty from Boston, Irish American Unity Conference chairperson Kate McCabe, IN NYC founder member John Murphy, Fox TV's Greg Kelly and Rocky Balboa star Geraldine Hughes. And now the search is on for our 2009 honorees.
Whatever the field, from music to medical research, from construction to computer programming, if they are under 40 and are making a name for themselves as formidable role models who are proud of their Irish heritage, then the Irish Echo wants to hear about them.
"Last year's listing set the bar very high," said Irish Echo editor
Ray O'Hanlon. "But we have no doubt there are many more young
champions of Irish America whose endeavors and commitment to their
Irish roots will make them worthy of a place on our 2009 40 Under 40
listing."
